The research project proposes to analyze two waves of the panel data released by the Taiwan Educational Panel Survey. The proposed project intends to study the following research questions in two academic years: (1) What is the relationship between parental socioeconomic status and their parental styles and practices? In order to answer this question, the project proposes to utilize the survey questions related to parental styles, so that the dimensions of parental styles could be uncovered and types of parental styles could be constructed. Based on this preparatory work, the relationship of parental socioeconomic status and parental styles and practices would be examined. The research project intends to study this research question in the academic year of 2007. (2) Whether parental styles and practices mediate the causal relationship between parental socioeconomic status and their adolescent children』s academic performance. The project would further explore the possibility of parental socioeconomic status and parental styles as moderators of the relationship between parental involvement of their children』s learning activities and their children』s academic performance. This research question would be the focus of the proposed research project in the academic year of 2008.
