This study explores the impact of news media on the financing performance of startups, based on signaling theory, and analyzes the role of news media as a signal transmitter. The research utilizes data from the Crunchbase database, covering startups from 2014 to 2023, and employs a fixed-effects regression model for analysis. The focus is on observing how media signals affect financing performance, while also examining the synergistic effect of multiple signals and the moderating role of company background. The results show that companies with more media coverage have significantly better financing performance, especially during the early stages. However, as companies mature and more information is disclosed, the effect gradually diminishes. Additionally, the complexity of articles negatively impacts financing performance, but positive sentiment in the articles can mitigate this negative effect, acting as a moderator.
