Adopted by the United Nations in 2015, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were created to foster cooperation among humankinds to make our Earth a better place through efforts in three aspects, including protecting the environment, promoting peace to the society and bringing ing prosperity to the world economy. SDGs are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all and address the global challenges we face. However, as the world is changing and our planet is facing more adverse challenges, the need to mainstream sustainble development become the new task at hand.

In recent years, with growing awareness on the social responsibilities of libraries, activities linked to the SDGs were organized, and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development launched by International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) were followed by libraries. Libraries stands as a sanctuary for accessing diverse knowledge, transcending limitations such as race, nationality, age, gender, and religious beliefs. It provides equal opportunities for readers to acquire knowledge, making it a crucial institution for practicing sustainability on campus. In this regard, librarians play a pivotal role.

In this study, questionnaires were distributed to explore university librarians' awareness and attitudes towards the SDGs, as well as the extent to which libraries have achieved these goals. Subsequently, correlation analyses were performed to understand the relation between the librarians’ awareness and attitudes and the SDG achievement level of libraries. A total of 209 valid responses were collected through an online survey administered from December 11, 2023, to January 31, 2024. Based on the survey results, five key research conclusions were drawn: (1) Librarians' awareness of promoting SDGs ranges from moderate to familiar. (2) Librarians generally exhibit positive attitudes towards achieving SDGs. (3) Among libraries in promoting SDGs, SDG 4 (Quality Education) showed the highest achievement level. (4) The library's achievement level in SDGs is significantly correlated with librarians' awareness of the 15 SDG goals. (5) The library's achievement level in SDGs is significantly correlated with librarians' attitudes.

This study would like to propose several recommendations: (1) Enhancing librarians' understanding of SDGs: Given that librarians' overall awareness of SDGs ranged from moderate to familiar, it is suggested that libraries provide professional development training to enhance librarians' knowledge and awareness of SDGs. (2) Implementing specific action plans for targeted SDGs: The study identified a need for libraries to strengthen actions related to SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 15 (Life on Land). Suggestions include organizing workshops, seminars, training sessions, exhibitions, and screenings to increase awareness among students and staff about these SDGs. (3) Promoting collaboration through shared library resources: In addition to implementing suitable SDGs within libraries, it is essential to establish sustainable development partnerships with other libraries to foster collaboration in promoting and implementing SDGs effectively.
