In recent years, shifts in the relationship between Taiwan and mainland China have brought the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) back into the spotlight. This study aims to explore the impact of ECFA on Taiwan, focusing specifically on labor demand elasticity, a topic that has been relatively under-researched. The analysis primarily targets Taiwan's manufacturing sector. The study not only examines the overall effects of ECFA on the manufacturing industry but also differentiates between high-tech and non-high-tech industries to assess the varied impacts on labor demand elasticity across these sectors. Empirical findings reveal that the implementation of ECFA has led to a significant increase in labor demand elasticity within Taiwan's manufacturing sector. Furthermore, the results indicate that ECFA has markedly elevated labor demand elasticity in both high-tech and non-high-tech industries. These outcomes suggest that the enactment of ECFA may introduce greater uncertainty and risk to Taiwan's labor market. |
