This series of experimental videos represents a deeply personal endeavor that delves into various philosophical concepts and emotions universally relevant to individuals regardless of their cultural backgrounds. The creator of these videos hails from a multicultural heritage, being of South Korean and Russian descent, and currently resides in Taipei City. Through a profound sense of homesickness and the navigation of diverse cultures and languages, the author unconsciously sought to depict moments and phenomena experienced in Taipei that resonate with the feeling of being back home, conveyed through an audio-visual medium.
The introductory piece sets the stage by exploring nostalgia for home, offering viewers insight into the motivation behind this collective work. Subsequent pieces showcase moments in life that possess an intrinsic universality – such as the chaotic nature of city life, the sense of anxiety and sadness brought about by rain, the feeling of happiness experienced on sunny days, and the joy of exploration of personal interests in the metaverse. Concluding the series, the author of this work presents a philosophical piece emphasizing that life revolves around movement and the exploration of diverse experiences.
These six experimental videos capture moments in the author’s life that evoke familiarity regardless of location. Emphasizing the insignificance of the physical location, the creator seamlessly blends different languages, musical styles, and landscapes from diverse countries, personally familiar to them. In essence, these experimental videos serve as a vessel in which various cultures intertwine and merge, giving rise to a world of entangled cultures – a concept akin to the heterotopian perspective, where seemingly unrelated particles coexist harmoniously. Thus, this body of work not only portrays the author’s emotional journey concerning home and navigating diverse cultures but also portrays a heterotopian realm where languages and cultures blend into a unified whole. |
