| Abstract: | 過去多數關於台灣女性候選人選舉表現的研究討論，主要是聚焦於立法委員、直轄市與縣市議員，或是直轄市與縣市首長等層級，鮮少有研究從村里長選舉的層次來分析女性候選人的選舉表現。本研究以2022年台灣地方選舉資料為基礎，從全國7,748個選區選取競爭態勢為「一男一女對決」的1,051個選區，同時採取量化與質化的研究方法，探討影響女性村里長候選人勝選的個人層次因素與選區層次因素。本研究發現，身份為現任者的女性村里長候選人，以及年齡較年輕的女性候選人，會有較佳的選舉表現。此外，若選區中存在女性縣市議員，女性村里長候選人在這樣的選區中會有較佳的選舉表現。本論文的貢獻在於為台灣女性基層參政提供系統性的解釋與分析，希望能對促進性別平等和女性參政提供若干政策意涵與啟發。
While previous research on women`s electoral performance in Taiwan focuses on legislative and mayoral elections, few studies examine the variations in women`s electoral performance in village chief elections. This study focuses on 1,051 village-level districts characterized by a "one male versus one female" contest out of a total of 7,748 districts nationwide during the 2022 Taiwan local elections. Employing both quantitative and qualitative approaches, this study analyzes individual-level and district-level factors that influence the electoral success of female candidates. The empirical analysis demonstrates that incumbent female candidates tend to exhibit better electoral performance. Furthermore, our findings indicate that female candidates who are younger than their male counterparts tend to perform better in elections. At the district level, female candidates are more likely to perform well in districts represented by at least one female city councilor. Overall, this thesis makes a contribution to the literature on women`s political participation in Taiwan by providing a systematic analysis and offering policy implications aimed at promoting gender equality and enhancing women`s participation in politics. |
