The Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) has been booming in recent years and is a major change for many enterprises to improve internal processes, increase operational efficiency, and reduce costs. Among them, PaaS platform has become an important tool for enterprises to develop industrial applications and create platform ecosystem, and even create a new phenomenon of co-creation in the industry. The purpose of this study is to explore and construct a maturity model for enterprises to adapt industrial PaaS platforms. This study focuses on industrial PaaS platform from the well-known domestic enterprise “W company”, by deeply exploring its business blueprints, and finally achieve the research goal to build a maturity model. Through literature review and analysis, this study defines five maturity dimensions and analyzes 100 companies through qualitative research and grounded theory to establish a maturity model. After analyzing the results, it was found that all the companies can be classified into three major categories: low maturity organizations in the exploration phase, characterized by low cooperation, low dependency, and low awareness and trust; medium maturity organizations in the stabilization phase, characterized by medium to high awareness, high switching costs, and high intention to continue cooperation; and high maturity organizations in the co-creation phase, characterized by large scale application of PaaS platform, high switching cost, joint venture, or even co-creating a new solution. This study serves as a reference for the academic community to conduct future research on the maturity of industrial PaaS platform ecosystem. It can also be used as a case example for various industries and enterprises in practice. This maturity model constructed in the study can be used to examine the maturity levels which organizations are placed, and therefore they can endeavor to improve continuously. |
