The World Health Organization defines the elderly as people over 60 years old. It is estimated that the elderly population will increase from 900 million in 2015 to 2 billion in 2050, an increase of about 10%. Compared with the population of other ages, the total number of elderly people is growing rapidly. The percentage of the elderly population (60 years old or above) in the total population will grow faster than the population aged 15 to 59. If this trend continues, in the future, business opportunities for the elderly-related industries will be unlimited.
As Taiwan is about to enter a super-aged society in 2025, how to establish a sustainable elderly care business model in Taiwan has become an important research topic. The research of this thesis is to use actual cases in the Netherlands and China over the past five years to explore how to establish a sustainable elderly care business model in Taiwan, which can be used as a reference for the national health industry.
The main contribution of this paper is the development of “SMART” innovative business model, which is a B2B2C business model to promote home care and successfully persuade the government to formulate a strategy. Under “SMART” innovative business model, the government can expect that such services can continue to operate without government funding. In this way, the government will formulate policy support, and if there are government policies, home care services for the elderly have become rigid needs.
