This thesis analyzes how natural farming may be significant to biodiversity and cultural preservation among Taiwan’s Atayal people. This thesis utilizes qualitative methods, such as interviews and a participatory observation to collect data. The thesis looks at the Shi Lei natural farm as a case study. In order to depict the relationship between culture and biodiversity in the context of Atayal natural farming, this thesis investigates the Shi Lei farm’s transition from conventional to natural farming. This thesis also describes cultural and biodiversity differences between conventional and natural farming and analyze the significance of language, spirituality, community, and indigenous knowledge to natural farming among the Atayal people. Through this thesis it was discovered that biodiversity and culture do have some type of connection, and natural farming may enhance this connection.
