This paper focuses on the design and practice of information platforms for digital collections of trans-disciplinary performing arts, whose purpose corresponds to the current government policy on the promotion of the digital contents industry. We adopt art collections of Taipei National University of the Arts as our subjects for design and practice to demonstrate the technology of automating processes of artistic design and display. The information platform that we have developed for digital art collections is an integrated trans-disciplinary resource network involving a variety of performing arts. Images, texts, as well as video and audio data of performing arts are first digitized and then further inter-connected in order to present an incorporated profile that simultaneously features the unique and various characteristics of diverse performing arts. This incorporated profile combines an assortment of resources into one network, including the historical data of the university and materials related to multiple fields such as music, dancing, opera, art, culture, and new media. The involvement of this incorporated profile in our designing of categorization definitely facilitates the preservation and application of digital art collections through a standardized, accessible, and meanwhile actively interwoven network. The primary goals of our project are as follows: (a) to increase the usage of and improve the servicing mechanism of digital resources in performing arts; (b) to develop and establish information platforms for digital art collections that will enable users to get access to resources and services through a single interface, based on the planning and value-added system for digital performing arts; (c) to promote effective application and long-term preservation of performing arts with the assistance of digital information technology; (d) to share our research experience of developing the information platform for performing arts.
