    近幾年來,由於經營環境丕變,多角化策略建為企業所普遍採行,多角化策略甚至已成為一時髦的名詞。而自學者Chandler提出「結構追隨策略」的概念後,陸續有許多學者相繼研究策略與結構的關係;但無庸置疑的,策略的轉向必須配以事實的結構調整;根據國內外的許多的研究顯示,事業部的組織型態因多角化策略的盛行而廣為企業所採行。
    本研究嘗試以一較為客觀且實務的立場探討企業於採行多角化策略時,組織結構調整為事業部型態的過程,並歸納出一般化的現象與原則,以提供實務界的參考,及後續研究的基礎。
    本研究是以個案撰寫的方式而成,利用與個案公司深入訪談,獲取其調整為事業部過程的縱段面資料,並以文獻探討(第二章)所提出的構面分析個案公司調整為事業部組織的原因、過程、結果(第四章);本研究所探討個案公司為:士林電機、宏碁公司、及遠東紡織。
    根據於第四章對個案公司組織結構調整的分析,第五章分別提出關於結構改組速度與環境特質、本身條件、及業務特性對組織型態演進影響的一般性命題,此亦為本研究主要研究結果。
