Modern Korean language is commonly the main object of foreign language teaching and learning. Among basic training processes including listening, speaking, reading or writing, modern Korean language is widely chosen to be the primary teaching material. It is that modern literature is the leading object of learning materials, even recognizing the significance of literary education on foreign language teaching, abundant vocabulary, syntax in real circumstances, and further understanding of culture of the country provided by literary works, yet the classical literature is rejected. Accordingly, it`s quite difficult to apply Korean classical literature on Korean language teaching and learning. Undeniable, however, a choke point soon appears when learner comes to a certain higher level if teaching material is mere modern literature, and tutor hardly makes a move on it as well. We should also recognize that no matter what country, their classical literature contains its cultural heritage with plentiful cultural elements, is a fine learning material. From the fact that recent foreign language research gradually emphasizing the cultural education, understanding the culture is a necessary condition of getting practiced with the language. Furthermore, not only a medium of foreign language learning, but Korea herself also takes classical literature as a cultural creative materials to re-interpret and re-creation, to make the young generation get close to their own culture. By this trend we realize the practicability and significance of classical literature on Korean language learning. Based on these recognition, therefore the research object is Classical novel for the 1st year, Oral literature for the 2nd and Shijo literature for the 3rd, to investigate how to apply these objects on Korean teaching, and what an effective pedagogical program through classical literature is.
