    摘要: 在世俗社會、全球經濟、大眾文化等現代性終結的可疑徵候中,韋伯的社會學理性不斷地受到修補和妥協,再被拿來當作社會批判分析的概念工具。反對修正主義式詮釋,本文主張,若要忠實韋伯的現代性精神,只有探查隱藏在諸理性形式內部的激情經驗,進而才可能辨認現代性精神的當代化身。本文旨在論證,韋伯社會學的基本問題不是為何西方獨具理性經濟,而是為何西方獨具激情文化。本文將重建韋伯論基督新教和亞洲宗教的比較倫理,以便指出其現代性精神不單純是冷酷理性,也隱含了狂熱激情;同時,他是在承認西方去基督教化的歷史宿命下,見證希臘悲劇的真正誕生。文末還將總結韋伯式理性和激情的概念關聯及其限制,並據此展望在當代世界裡養育激情的關鍵要項在於開發驕傲自我的技術。
    Under the suspicious signs of the end of modernity such as secular society, global economy and mass culture, Max Weber`s sociological rationality, as a conceptual tool, is constantly compromised in revised forms to adapt to a critical analysis of society. Against revisionist interpretations, this paper suggests that one remains faithful to Weber`s spirit of modernity only by probing the experience of passion hidden inside various forms of rationality; henceforth, one might identify the contemporary avatars of that spirit. The article aims to propose that the fundamental question of Weberian sociology is not why a rational economy developed only in the West, but rather why it created a unique passionate culture. It will reconstruct Weber`s comparative analysis of the Protestant and Asian religious ethics in order to show that his modern spirit consists in hot passion as well as cold rationality. Meanwhile, he witnesses the actual birth of Greek tragedy since recognizing the historical destiny of Occidental de-Christianization. It will also conclude with some remarks on the conceptual links between and limits of Weberian rationality and passion, thereby anticipating the cultivation of passion to count on a necessary development in our contemporary world: technologies of the proud self.
