Abstract:	To provide an oerview of the history of film study in Taiwan from 1949 to 1993, thousands of research works published during this period were classified and analyzed. The following publications were examined using bibliometric analysis: books, periodicals, newspapers, thesises or dissertations, research project reports, and proceedings. The research indicates that most film writing over the past forty years has focused on the popular criticism and study of individual films and film art. There has been only a small number of published works at the academic level, due primarily to the fact that Taiwan lacks a academic film institution.
