The macro-appraisal model was put forward by Canadian archivist Terry Cook in 1990. Library and Archives Canada (LAC) has adopted the model since 1991 and the validity of the model has been verified. This model has also been gradually applied in a number of countries around the world. This paper will focus on the current implementation of macro-appraisal model in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, and South Africa, discussing why the model has been implemented in these countries and how principles of the model have been adjusted to adapt to different requirements. The discussion of the effects of implementation and the various points of view put forth by scholars will help us evaluate the feasibility of applying the macro-appraisal model in Taiwan.
