Recently the documentary is becoming an important genre of Taiwanese film』s production and consumption. However, documentary makers still suffer from bad working conditions, and thus many of them have established a labor union in 2006. By regarding documentary makers as 「cultural workers」 based on theories about cultural labor and cultural industries, this project aims to investigate and analyze the characteristics of labor, working conditions, and the labor union』s development of Taiwanese documentary workers. First, the working environment of documentary workers, including the productions, circulations, consumptions, as well as the government polices about Taiwanese documentary industry, will be examined. Second, this research will conduct a survey, through both quantitative and qualitative methods, on documentary workers』 laboring, working conditions, and related variables. Third, this paper will describe and examine the development of Taiwanese Documentary Workers』 Union and the factors that influence the degrees of worker』s participation in labor union. Based on empirical data and theoretical review, this project will provide the labor perspective to the field of academic research and suggestions of union strategies to the labor movement. In addition, the results will be presented both by research papers and a documentary.
