Professor Yeng-chyh Lee played a significant role as a reformer in Taiwan’s democratization through his outstanding academic works on advocating Taiwan sovereignty. He eveloped his knowledge base on studying modern Japanese history and thoughts. From the 1980s, Professor Lee was engaged with real politics of Taiwan by participating in formation of the opposition party. His effort was aimed to carry out his ultimate dream of founding an independent state. The most remarkable note is Professor Lee remained himself as an idealist in all political reforms. He never compromised his plan to short-sighted plan, which should be his major legacy for Taiwan.
