The doctrine of Hijrah in Islam has its due historical background of Ummah development. Starting from Mecca and Medina, the spread of Islam into various regions and the development of local Muslim communities can be regarded as the realization of Hijrah doctrine. The aim of Hijrah is originally to search for places where Muslims could practice Islam properly. After Muslims had migrated from central lands of Islam into China, the doctrine of Hijrah was no longer realized throughout the long course of Sinicization or Confucianization. While due to the political complications, after their migration to Taiwan, the Han-speaking Muslims (Hui) were forced to further assimilation into the secular Han-Confucian society. This resulted in the decline of their Islamic identity and the diminishment of community. This essay attempts to explore the doctrine of Hijrah to examine the Han-speaking Muslim community in Taiwan, it deals with the dilemma that the community has been facing to draw a comprehensive history of the Han-speaking Muslim community in Taiwan.
