    摘要: 驚呼或警示傳播研究的危機與轉機，並不新鮮。早一些，行為科學家貝勒森（Bernard Berelson）審視當時的學界動態，曾在1959 年認定傳播研究形將凋謝。13 年後，《雅俗之間》、《新聞是什麼？》的作者甘斯（Herbert Gans）說，「大眾傳播一度活躍於學院的社會學研究，特別是1930 與1940 年代，其後卻急遽進入貧瘠狀態，至今尚未看到回春的跡象。」到了1983 年，美國主要傳播期刊之一Journal of Communication（JOC）推出「這個領域的騷動」（Ferment in the Field），顯示即便當年甘斯所言為真，到了此時，顯然業已翻轉了甘斯十年前的觀察。更重要的，社會學之外，更多其他領域的人手都向傳播課題進軍了。千軍萬馬奔赴傳播，各色各樣的期刊書籍發作，肥大了出版商家，到了JOC 在2004 年底推出專號，當然也無法盡窺傳播理論與研究領域的全豹。
