National Intellectual Capital Trend Analysis, Structural Capital and Relational Capital Theory Applications In the new era, the value of knowledge economy and intangible assets has been well recognized by national and organizational leaders in every part of the world. Nowadays, the key success factors are no longer tangible lands, capitals, and properties; instead, innovation, committed and talented human resources, and effective management systems are the cores of lasting competitiveness. The concept of intellectual capital is originated at the Nordic countries and has been spread to the whole world with increasing research inputs. In addition, the scope of relevant research has been extended from organizational level to region, nation, and even to city levels. Furthermore, this first deemed peripheral research stream has caught the attention of some heavy weight researchers in the Academy of Management Association recently. This project is the “Sub-project #1” of the three-year integrated project of “Intellectual Capital Research: Management Perspective”, mainly targeting for extending my past research. In the first year, trend analysis of my 40-country national intellectual capital will be carried on. The impact of national intellectual capital and national culture alignment on GDP will be added this year. The proposed match is human, market, process, and renewal capital versus humane, performance, institutional, and future orientation. From the second year onward, the research will focus on organizational level studies. The second year research will try my 2009 Structural Capital Formation Model onto the real situations to see its applicability. The third year research will also try my 2010 Relational Capital Formation Model onto the real situations to see its applicability. Hopefully, through these two years’ case company interviews, focus group discussions, and published case analyses, my proposed structural capital and relational capital theory models can be refined and confirmed as a basis for future studies.
