The basic hypothesis of this project is: The process of globalization of Shanghai is different from Western model of 「global city」 formation. In order to understand the interaction between the state, local government, and market mechanism, this project will adopt multi-disciplinary approaches to study Shanghai』s globalization process. Major topics of research include issues such as 「collaborative governance,」 「global transformation,」 and 「global city regions」 in the Greater Shanghai area. The ultimate goal of this project is to contribute to theoretical building on globalization of city regions and local political economy in China.
