Shop floor control is a key factor for successfully applying ERP, SCM, and APS systems. Plus, scheduling is the core of a shop floor control. This research studies two topics in the complicated job shop scheduling: the effect of bottlenecked machines on dispatching rules, and the effect of overtime models on the efficiency of the whole system. We thoroughly evaluated sixteen dispatching rules on many different conditions "with bottlenecked machines" and "without bottlenecked machines", and summarized rules for the selection of dispatching rules under different conditions. Also, we developed a multi-objective overtime model for enhancing the performance of the whole system. It is believed that the results produced in this research will be helpful for bridging the gap between theoretical research and practical applications on job shop scheduling.
