This study explores the drivers of sustained participation in mommy-buying-group. Based on in-depth interviews with thirteen active members, the findings reveal that long-term engagement is rooted less in price or convenience than in the responsibilities, emotional needs, and mutual support embedded in motherhood. Three forms of social interaction are identified—informational, emotional, and collaborative—which respectively enhance childcare knowledge, provide companionship, and improve participation efficiency. These interactions are strengthened by social media features and cultural norms, reinforcing trust and community belonging. Drawing on Social Exchange Theory, Calculus-Based Trust, Knowledge-Based Trust, and Identification-Based Trust, Parasocial Interaction Theory, and the concept of Social Grooming, the study proposes an action logic with motherhood as the motivator, social interaction as the pathway, and sustained participation as the outcome. This research reframes mom-group buying as a socially embedded practice, addressing gaps in prior studies that overlooked the role of maternal identity. |
