In this project, we measure the gains from trade of China due to its accession to WTO and address the following issues of concern. First, with the help of benchmark model in Caliendo and Parro (2015), we evaluate the general equilibrium effect caused by changes in tariffs on intermediate consumption of import goods. That is, we investigate the role of changes in the compositions of intermediate played in measuring gains from trade. Second, this project sheds more light on the role of skilled and unskilled labor in accounting for gains from trade. Third, combining input-output tables and Socio-economic accounts provided by World Input-Output Database allows us to measure sectoral TFP across countries. Then, we compare changes in the distribution of the sectoral productivity levels between China and its main trading partners.
