Abstract: With the development of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, smart home security service has emerged. Past studies have focused on smart home technology or general smart home services. This study applies the costbenefit paradigm and the Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) model as the guiding theoretical frame-works for identifying the possible determinants of perceived benefits and sacrifices and their effects on smart home security service adoption. The survey findings demonstrated that fashion symbol, family support, and usefulness would produce significant perceived benefits; on the other hand, privacy concern, complexity and cost burden did bring perceived sacrifice. Perceived benefits significantly affected users adoption, while perceived sacrifices exerted a significant negative effect. Regarding moderating effects, only information and communications technology (ICT) self-efficacy moderated on the path between perceived benefit and adoption. No other moderating effects were found. This study offers some recommendations based on its findings.
