Online misogyny has recently become a prominent issue in Taiwan, with digital media accentuating the link between misogynistic phenomena and online discourse. This shift has two political effects: people begin viewing online spaces through a gendered, political lens, and "hate speech" challenges universal interpretations of “free speech.” However, online misogyny often carries an element of “witticism.” This paper applies Slavoj Žižek’s psychoanalytic theory to reinterpret online misogyny, employing concepts such as “the unconscious,” “fantasy,” “superego” and “jouissance,” which prioritize desire over discourse, framing misogynistic rhetoric as driven by a “perverted humor” that calls for ethical suspension rather than moral constraint.
