    Title: 基於眼動實驗的華語三聲變調感知研究

    Abstract: 語音是語言教學的基礎,而在華語教學中,聲調則是華語二語習得的一大難點。以華語為第二語言的學習者,對於聲調的掌握往往很具挑戰性。在華語聲調中,尤以三聲的調性引起廣泛討論,因其聲學特徵以及語境變化較為多變。華語的三聲連續變調,指兩個三聲相連時則第一個三聲讀為類似二聲,原為降升調(214)讀為上升調(14或35),此一變調現象引起眾多研究者以及華語教學者的關注。本研究聚焦於華語三聲連續變調現象。文獻中有關華語三聲連續變調的研究發現,對於變調三聲與本調二聲的中和化情況有所分歧。以往的研究中發現,變調三聲與本調二聲的聲學特徵顯現了不完全中和化(incomplete neutralization),但是在聲調辨識實驗中卻發現了感知方面完全中和化(complete neutralization);亦即,雖然研究發現變調三聲跟本調二聲的聲學特徵基頻(F0)存在顯著差異,但是母語者在感知實驗中仍然不能正確地辨識兩者的區別。為了進一步探究變調三聲與本調二聲的感知中和化程度,本研究將運用眼動技術以取得即時的線上處理歷程資料(on-line processing information),藉以重新探究這個議題。本研究預計採用可供查看自動化歷程(automatic processing)的視覺情境典範(visual-world paradigm),調查華語母語者和高級程度的二語學習者(母語為聲調語言和非聲調語言)是否能在超音段層面上感知變調三聲與本調二聲的差異,以及聲調的聲學細節是否能促進華語的字義觸接(lexical access)。預期本研究結果能更進一步了解,語言經驗以及類別知覺(categorical perception)與聲學細節(acoustic details)在語境變化的華語聲調感知歷程中的作用。
    Phonetics is a basic component for language education. In Mandarin Chinese, tonal acquisition is found to be difficult for second language (L2) learners. How to master Mandarin tones is generally quite challenging for L2 learners. Among the lexical tones in Mandarin Chinese, the third tone brings about most discussions because of its complex acoustic features and varied tonal realizations. In Mandarin Chinese, a low-dipping Tone3 is converted to a high-rising Tone2 when followed by another Tone3, known as third tone sandhi. This study investigated the perception of Mandarin tonal alternations in disyllabic words. Although previous studies showed statistically differences in F0 between a high-rising Sandhi-Tone3 (T3) and a Tone2, native Mandarin listeners failed to correctly categorize these two tones in perception tasks. The current study utilized the visual-world paradigm in eye-tracking, which can tap into automatic processing, to further examine whether acoustic details in lexical tone aid lexical access in Mandarin Chinese. This study will compare the results of native speakers and advanced L2 learners (with tonal language and non-tonal language backgrounds). The findings will be discussed in terms of language experience interacting with categorical perception and acoustic details in the processing of Mandarin tonal alternations in contexts.
