Abstract: This study introduces a novel web-based collaborative digital reading annotation system (WCDRAS) that incorporates multimedia annotations including text, voice, video, and images, along with interactive discussion features to enhance reading comprehension skills of junior high school students for solving mathematical application problems. Through empirical investigation, this study assesses the impact of WCDRAS on learning outcomes and motivation among students. The experimental group, supported by WCDRAS, is compared against a control group engaged in traditional peer face-to-face collaborative learning methods. Results indicate that students utilizing WCDRAS demonstrate significantly better learning performance and motivation than those in the control group. This study shows the potential of WCDRAS to support autonomous learning of mathematical concepts that can be applied to both formal education and preparatory learning activities.
