This thesis explores the complexities and prospects of integrating renewable energy sources into the energy matrix of Belize. It investigates the potential for transitioning towards a more sustainable energy future through the widespread adoption of renewable energy technologies.
To achieve this, quantitative and qualitative sources of data were evaluated. These include studies and research on the topics of renewable energy mainly from countries within the Latin American region. A combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches was used to gather firsthand perspectives on the integration of renewable energy in Belize. A total of 120 surveys were distributed to Belizeans and a 66.67% response rate was obtained.
After data analyses, the following key results were derived: Belize has vast potential to surpass 85% renewable energy by 2030, though challenges lie ahead. Collaborative efforts between Belizeans and the government are crucial to educate and promote renewable energy. Overcoming obstacles demands partnership among government, private sector, and civil society. Effective policies on renewable energy education, waste management, and nature-based solutions are essential for a sustainable and resilient energy future. These initiatives will enhance the quality of life for future generations and advance Belize's sustainable development goals in the 21st century.
