Firstly, 'Njanai' maintains the accent of the preceding verb, resulting in a conventional intonation pattern. However, for flat-type verbs with four mora, the accent nucleus comes at the end of the word. On the other hand, "(p)pokunai" and "kunai" appear as Tobihane intonation. This difference is influenced by the level of intimacy between the speaker and the listener.
Next, regarding usage, "(p)pokunai" is used when the speaker and the listener have the same amount of information. "njanai" and "kunai" are used when the listener has more information. However, if the speaker judges that the listener also has an equivalent amount of information, "kunai" can be used.
Based on these characteristics, it was revealed that in terms of intimacy and certainty, the sequence is 'njanai → (p)pokunai → kunai'. This is considered a manifestation of communication strategies within the young people.
