This study utilizes Japan and South Korea as research samples, employing the trade gravity model as a foundation (including weapon imports, the GDP of exporting and importing countries, per capita GDP, and the geographical distance between the two countries). The study explores the impact of globalization and regional peace on weapon imports in Japan and South Korea. Additionally, other potential influencing factors such as defense expenditure, differences in democratization levels, and alliance relationships are considered for discussion. By collecting and organizing current data and statistics from the sample countries between 2012 and 2022, the study establishes empirical models in two parts. These models are then subjected to empirical analysis using the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method. According to the empirical results, "globalization" exhibits a significant positive correlation, while "regional peace" shows no significant impact. Furthermore, the GDP and per capita GDP of the weapon-exporting country also have a significant positive influence on weapon imports in Japan and South Korea. Considering the impact of "alliance relationships," it is found that these relationships have a more significant positive explanatory power and simultaneously reduce the significance of "weapon-exporting country GDP." This, in turn, makes "weapon-exporting country per capita GDP" no longer significant. Therefore, it is evident that "alliance relationships" play a decisive role in the weapon imports of Japan and South Korea.
