The current global trends show that central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) are crucial to both financial industry and banking in the future. According to the CBDC Tracker, as of December 2021, at least 64 central banks are exploring central bank digital currencies. 20 of them have launched or tested central bank digital currencies such as China, England, and Sweden who have mature financial systems. As at 2022, it has reached 144 countries.
Most of the current researches about the central bank digital currencies focus on the traditional financial technology and blockchain technology, with blockchain as the bulk. However, it is still unclear that these two choices would be the best solution.
In this thesis, we combine the advantages of blockchain and traditional electronic financial systems to design a payment system model suitable for CBDC. The system provides privacy, high scalability, and facilitates supervision which are key elements of a CBDC.
