The purpose of this study is to focus on the repatriation life experience and their adaptive strategies of returning migrant workers. To be specific, this study is to find out how one can utilize his or her oversea working experience dividends after returning home, such as the economic advantage, and the influence of the stimulation by different cultures and values. Furthermore, to understand how one determines his or her strategies while facing economical and psychological adaption challenges.
The study found that the gender role and the social norms under the Javanese tradition make the psychological adaptation challenges of those single female return migrant workers more difficult. To adjust and overcome return migrant workers’ life adaption challenges, they can only flexibly utilize their oversea experience and apply to their survival strategies, such as consciously planning their career path, grasping an entrepreneurial opportunity in the local market, and recognizing their self-worth.
