This study employs the notion of independent and interdependent self-construals as indicators of individual values to measure and predict how values have an influence on argumentative behaviors. A total of 1131 college students from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan were involved in this survey. The results indicate that the overall Chinese society places higher values on self-and-others` relationships. To place three cultures (China, Hong Kong and Taiwan) on the collectivism/individualism continuum, Taiwan was marked on the collectivism end and Hong Kong on the individualism end. Surprisingly, the independent value type (high on independent self-construal and low on interdependence) is found to be approached and avoid any arguing.
