Abstract: | 隨著伺服器的需求與日俱增,Transparency Market Research指出資料庫中心的相關硬體設備預計在西元2020年產值達到美金720億。Digitimes更指出台灣的硬體製造商是伺服器供應鏈的主要供應商,在西元2017到西元2018的成長率高達16%。而硬體市場的蓬勃發展,背後的幕後推手-軟體,面對這個廣大的市場需求,軟體的應用發展,更是不可或缺。
在本論文中,將以BMC (Baseboard management controller)作為主要目標市場,針對市場上目前居為領先地位的company A介紹並分析,說明市場現況與衝擊, company A的解決方案,以及未來可能遇到的問題與研究方向。
Company A投入在BMC的軟體開發已有超過20年的經驗,然而面對強勁的市場新進對手OpenBMC的先天優勢,company A評估適當且必要的回應是需要的。因此,Company A開始了一連串的活動,收集顧客意見,了解市場對於競爭對手的評價與想法,試圖站在顧客的需求為出發點,重新設計產品並尋求一個更具有創新的方式來回應市場。
在Company A的回應中,主要是針對競爭對手提出的Open technology開發出相對應的相容性軟體,並輔以專業且持續的服務,解決顧客的問題,使得顧客可以簡單地使用新軟體,降低資訊搜尋成本,買方的道德危機成本,以及減少買方資產與人力的投入,用以吸引顧客。 Keeping growth over past 10 years in server marker, data center equipment market is projected to reach US$72 billions by 2020 (by Transparency Market Research). According to Digitime’s research, Taiwan’s makers of server, motherboard, storage devices, and related system network equipment are playing as key suppliers of hardware in the server’s market, and be estimated to further shoot up 16% in 2018. In the other side of hardware, the physical devices used in server; software is another necessary demand shown in the market.
In the thesis, the case study is to discuss and analyze the software company - company A, a pioneer of BMC’s software market. According to current situation, the market has with advanced technological innovation and fast pace changes in the industry these days. Even the company A has been implemented in the same industry for more than 20 years, still keep developing new technology toward an innovative direction. How to better utilize resources to meet on demand market requirements is always the goal of company A.
While a new strong competitor (OpenBMC) came to the market, the current business model for software revenue generation is impacted and start to change for an open technology. To fulfill market requirements and provide customer required features simultaneously with a compatible open solution are the innovation way company A is taking; therefore, a new product is designed by company A to respond OpenBMC’s threat.
During the development of new product – OSP, company A listens to the voices from each customer, stands from customers’ view to understand the issues, to think about the business model so it can better balance supply and demand
Once company A has done the development of new product, the coming up next challenge is to deploy it to the market. Considering to gather all the cons of competitor, company A design to provide a continuous service and compatible open solution with leveraged robust code, those will help customers (manufactures of hardware) to reduce the information search cost, moral hazard, and asset specificity.
Through the innovative way – open technology, company A hopes to contribute to the software industry, to let the software industry will be more prosperous. However, how to convince customers the buying cost is reasonable and valuable will be the further discussion. |
