Research on Yiguan Dao (I-Kuan Tao) in the R.O.C. has mostly been conducted in graduate theses, and has addressed a wide array of topics. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to review and reflect on these studies. It begins by describing the academic environment surrounding the research on Yiguan Dao (I-Kuan Tao), and then introduces the process that this field of research has developed over time. This article aligns fifty theses along a single timeline and explores how the trend of quantity distribution has ebbed and flowed. Secondly, this paper analyzes the backgrounds and motives of these researchers, and highlights the result that nearly 86% of these individuals are practitioners of Yiguan Dao (I-Kuan Tao). While the insider status of these researchers greatly facilitated their ability to carry out these studies, this dual identity has also easily compromised the quality of their research. This paper also applies some topical categories to evaluate the topics of these theses, their materials, and approaches. I analyze the relevance between the academic backgrounds of these researchers and the kinds of topics they choose to study. It also becomes apparent that most of these researchers, who receive their professional training in Religious Studies, are deeply influenced by the concerns of their discipline. At the end of this paper, it synthesizes and evaluates the studies in an effort to explore the common characteristics and drawbacks of studying Yiguan Dao (I-Kuan Tao) in these theses. By placing these studies within the context of larger trends within Religious Studies in the R.O.C., this article hopes to establish a solider and more comprehensive direction for the future research on Yiguan Dao (I-Kuan Tao).
