3D Interactive storytelling is one of the most promising applications of 3D contents in recent years. This new form of presentation attempts to make a digital game look like a film with a good storyline and make a film with diversified outcomes through user interaction. Although allowing user
participation can potentially enhance the enjoyment of narratives and immersiveness of a user, it is also a challenging issue to ensure the logics and automatic generation of the story contents and good user experience during the interaction. In this project, we have planned to use two years to continue to develop related key technologies and novel applications on a platform codeveloped by INRIA and our team. More specifically, in the first-year project, we focused on developing a story authoring platform for collaborative story augmentation and the related technologies to support this platform, such as
parameterized story module and context-aware camera motion planning. Our system, named iCAP, is an Intelligent Collaborative Authoring Platform for IDS, The iCAP system contains a graphical user interface for making the story editing process easier and the storyline more readable. The iCAP system includes the collaborative features such as the settings of access rights, the parameterization of the
scenario settings, the authoring logs of the collaborative process, and the intelligent error detecting tool that is used to detect the errors occurring in a story structure. We believe that the expected result of this research will shed some lights to a novel design direction for 3D entertainment and will also facilitate the industrial development of real-time animation software.
