China and North Korea are both post-Japan war socialist countries that have developed special relations through the Korean War. However, even during the Cold War period, the relation between the two countries was far from stable. As a small country in the region, North Korea maintained a consistent position despite Chinese support amid tumultuous international situations involving the Soviet Union and the United States. In the recent nuclear development issue, China is the Chairman of the Six Party Talk and despite its intermediary role, there has been no success in dissuading North Korea. China`s diplomatic influence is being tested.
