The present study aimed to examine the third-person effect and parental mediation of children’s television viewing. The data was collected by asking the parents of the fifth and sixth graders of Tainan City Elementary schools to fill in a survey. The hypotheses were proposed to test the relationships between the third-person perception on the antisocial effects of television and the parental mediation of their children’s television viewing. The results indicated that the third-person effect is able to predict the evaluation type and the unfocused type, but not the restrictive mediation. In addition, theoretical and methodological implications for future research are also discussed in this study.
