The purpose of this study is to adopt meta-analysis to investigate the academic performance differences between Taiwanese and new immigrant students. After searching the database with several keywords, the authors found totally 481 relevant articles addressing this issue. Based on five inclusion and exclusion rules, 59 articles are coded and meta-analyzed. Overall speaking, the results show that the Taiwanese students perform better than new immigrant students and the average effect size is small to median (d=0.38). Moreover, the rejection of null hypothesis of homogeneity indicated the variability of the effect sizes is larger than expected. Based on the moderator analysis, it is found that the mothers of the low-performed new immigrant students mainly come from south-east countries. However, the academic performance differences between new immigrant and Taiwanese students are declined as the schooling age increased. Conclusions and Suggestions are provided in the end of this study as references for future researchers and decision makers.
