In order to let all patrons know the services it provides, a library is obliged to hold tours for all the people who are eager to use its facilities and services. A group tour, lectured by a librarian, is usually adopted to fit this need. However, demands for more bibliographic instruction of for use of new facilities, such as online search, have created trouble for the traditional group tour. The library needs a flexible and effective self-guided audio tour for different levels of patrons. Langley Research Center Technical Library at NASA, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Main Library, and Texas A&M University Library install their own self-guided audio tour to familiarize their patrons with their services and facilities on a flexible schedule and basis. To develop this self-guided system, the library has to conduct a survey to learn about patron`s interests and habits in the tour. Based upon the findings, a committee shall be composed to monitor and guide the whole project.
