In this study, the researchers developed a questionnaire and invited administrative staff in 339 schools and 749 non-school staff members-turned- volunteers to fill in the questionnaire which was designed to survey the current situation of recruiting school administrative staffs and volunteers to work on an adoption-guidance program in elementary schools in Taipei City and County. The relationship between the school- background factors and the use of volunteers and the current situation and effects of using volunteers on the program were discussed. Based on the collected data from the questionnaire, the main findings were summarized as follows: (1) There was significant correlation between school sizes and using volunteers in the adoption-guidance program: Big-sized schools tended to adopt the program. (2) The reason the schools adopted the program was that teachers had been too busy with teaching work to take time out to do volunteer work regarding the program. Those schools working on the program had met with a dilemma in which they were short of money to hire counseling experts to cultivate volunteers. It deserved attention that social welfare foundations that financed the schools were inclined to do follow-up projects to review achievements; by contrast, the educational authorities showed little interest in providing funds for schools to continue and to supervise the program. In the findings, the schools took the initiative in raising money and seeking social resources to go on with the task and more than 90 percent of administrative staff members and volunteers expressed their hope to continue the program in the future. Meanwhile, Those schools working on the program had more concrete schemes for cultivating volunteers than other schools that were cultivating volunteers to carry out the program. (3) School administrative staffs and volunteers had pros on the volunteers’ contributions to the program. Based on the above- mentioned findings, the research was dedicated to presenting discussions and proposing suggestions for future research and application in the school-guidance program.
