Abstract:	本文以史料考證為主要的研究方法。將1885到1895年之間發生在臺灣原住民與臺灣防軍之間的戰爭，做歷史地理的考訂與史實的重建。本文將戰爭事件按地區分為北路、中路、南路、後山，並將北路部份分為三個時期：1885~1886，1887~1889，1890~1892。戰爭以北路為重心，由北路的分期為基礎，開山撫番戰爭可分為四個時期，即再加上1892~1895年的消極鎮壓時期。
