Libraries, museums and archives receive book gifts from a variety of institutions and individuals. Nowadays donation and reception are done independently; there is hardly any cooperation, coordination or integration. Donation and reception are literally inseparable. Donation itself can be treated as a mechanism for connection and communication; therefore, the needs, management and services of both sides can be accommodated. The authors propose an interactive platform for donation activities which can meet the needs of the donors, recipients and even users. Due to the advancement of information technology, huge amount of information flow as well as the changeable relationships of the collecting institutions and users, the platform’s matching, intermediating and managing functions together with use and feedback data can create a three-way win-win situation. With collaborative effort, the benefits of this donation platform stand out in three aspects. First, the collective management can increase the efficiency for collecting institutions. Thus, their roles and services would be improved accordingly. Second, the most suitable recipients can be selected through the platform’s matching function. Third, the platform transcends the limits of individual collecting institutions. With use data, the effectiveness of the donation becomes more obvious.
