The main purpose of this study was to explore teachers` mental health. Based on the literature reviewed, this study proposed a nine-state model about mental health: ”floundering state”, ”hovering state”, ”struggling state”, ”sentimental state”, ”popular state”, ”striving state”, ”languishing state”, ”contented state” and ”flourishing state”. There were 2117 teachers randomly selected from northern, central, and southern Taiwan. All of the participants had to complete two questionnaires: a subjective well-being scale, and the Taiwan depression scale, in order to measure their subjective well-being and depression. The collected data was analyzed by descriptive statistics. Findings were summarized as follows: There was 1% of teachers` (22) in a floundering state, 0.9% of teachers` (19) in a hovering state, no of teachers` in a struggling state, 7.3% of teachers` (155) in sentimental state, 7.1% of teachers` (151) in popular state, 1% of teachers` (22) in a striving state, 14.3% of teachers` (302) in languishing state, 44% of teachers` (931) in a contented state, 24.3% of teachers` (515) in flourishing state.
