75%。 System development has been recognized as a task with a high level of complexity and remains more of an art rather than a science. Computer-Aided Software Engineering (CASE) is the automation of the software engineering discipline. The aim of this research is to understand the CASE usage in Taiwan. First, through literature review, we developed a questionnaire including two versions---one for general respondents, the other for teachers and CASE agents. After pre-testing, the questionnaires were sent to the following: Top 100 business, government agencies, financing industry, members of Information Manager Association, members of Society of Information Management, teachers with specialty of system analysis/design or software engineering in MIS departments of universities, CASE agencies and their user groups. 786 questionnaires were sent. 226 effective samples were obtained after we sent two follow-up letters. Factor analyses were used to condense several factors from serious problems in system development, perceived problems in CASE usage, attitude toward CASE and success factors for CASE implementation, respectively. ANOVA were used to explore the possible influence of many external variables (including respondent`s personal, organizational, information department and system development) on those problems and attitude. Then, after including the variable "the critical problems in system development", we tested the attitude model about information technology adoption proposed by Davis (1986). We have found that "the perceived problems in CASE usage" has statistically significant influence on neither "perceived CASE improvement for system development critical problems" nor "attitude toward CASE". About the determinants of CASE successful implementation, we have found that the "methodology usage" (including the usage before CASE adoption and the consistency with methodology supported by CASE) is the only statistically significant variable. In addition, using only "methodology usage" variable can discern relatively successful adopter from relatively unsuccessful adopter with 75% correct classification rate. |
