There are two purposes served in this paper First, the author attempts to extend the issues of Chinese politeness discussed on Gu Yueguo`s papers in 1990 and 1992. Secondly, with the papers of Lakoff (1973), Leech (1983), Gu Yueguo (1990, 1992) and Xu Shenghuan (1992), the different rules/maxims of politeness between Chinese and Spanish culture were discussed and contrasted in terms of vocabulary and conversation. The further discussion on the issues of how Lakoff`s three rules compared to the Chinese manners was also elaborated in the paper.
