Emperor Zinnmu is the first emperor in Japanese Emperor family tree. There are lots of stories about Emperor Zinnmu written in Kojiki and Nihonsyoki. However, the points of description about Emperor Zinnmu`s stories and his images are not exactly the same in these two books, for instance, his expedition to east or marriage.A literary work is constructed of character, theme and story. It is very important to understand the theme and characteristic first if we try to study the portraits of characters in Kojiki and Nihonsyoki. This essay is part of emperors` portrait research in Kojiki and NihonSyoki. It starts from the view of Theory of Works, observes the description of behavior, speech, reaction and attitude of Emperor Zinnmu written in KJjiki with Nihonsyoki, and then aims at picturing the portrait of Emperor Zinnmu. Furthermore, it tries to find out the features, value and personality of Emperor Zinnmu`s portrait in the two books through comparison.According to the methods above, I have found portrait of Emperor Zinnmu in Kojiki more on divinity and personality of a living god, and in Nihonsyoki on humanity, morality and justice. Their difference is relevant to the attitude of treating "heaven" and "nation", the objective of the two books to be written, and the willing of Emperor Zinnrnu, too.
