The investment of Taiwan`s businessmen in mainland China has been concentrated in Guandong province ever since 1987, due to its geographical proximity to Taiwan via Hong Kong. Taiwan investment in Guangdong has been mainly in small and medium-sized enterprises. The average amount per case for their investment in manufacturing industries is less than US $ 1 million. The percentage of Taiwan investment in manufacturing industries is 95%, concentrating on electronic, shoe-making, plastic production, etc. The geographical distribution of Taiwan`s investors in Guangdong has been clustered in Zhujinang Delta, such as Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Dongguan. However, because of highly economic development and the rise of real estate and labor in these areas, many of Taiwan`s investors have been gradually forced to move out from Guandong province.
