Description:	蒙古位處中俄兩國之間，地緣戰略位置特殊，常成為大國權力競逐下的棋子。冷戰時期蒙古採行「一面倒」政策，以完全倒向蘇聯的方式來換取其軍事與經濟援助。在軍事方面，蒙蘇的軍事同盟關係使得蘇軍得以長期駐紮於蒙古國內，其主要目的係為制衡中國；在經濟層面，蒙古國內的重要經濟基礎設施及公司亦多由蘇方所掌控，使蒙古成為蘇聯名符其實的附庸國。隨著1991 年底蘇聯的解體，國際局勢丕變，美國一時之間成為獨霸的強權，蒙蘇的附庸關係亦出現變化，蘇軍自蒙古撤出，雙方的經貿互動亦陷於停滯。蒙古的外交政策也因此從原來的「一面倒」政策，轉變為「不結盟」及「多支點」政策，亟欲擺脫其昔日與大國的附庸關係，與各國建立平等友好關係，提升自身在國際上的獨立地位。
